Trimester Break is Underway — Classes Start Again May 21

Here at the Eagle Rock School & Professional Development Center, we began our trimester break late last week, highlighted by the graduation of four students last Friday afternoon, followed a community meeting Saturday and a staff meeting that concluded earlier today.

And while the staff break begins in earnest tomorrow (Wednesday), a number of our instructors, Professional Development Center staff, and other campus staff will be hard at work throughout the trimester breather. Many of our instructors will spend time planning classes for Eagle Rock School’s upcoming 75th trimester (ER-75), and the school’s Leadership Team is heading off to a meeting of the American Honda Education Corporation board of directors on May 3.

Two days later— on Saturday, May 5 — many Eagle Rock volunteers and staff will be in Estes Park, supporting the Estes Park Rotary Duck Race that benefits dozens of local charities and organizations each year — including, of course, our Graduate Higher Education Fund.

For our Professional Development team, there is no real break to speak of, with a schedule packed with program deliveries, meetings, and retreats throughout the country, including:

April 19: McCormick Foundation, Belleville Township, Ill. — Associate Director of Professional Development, Dan Condon, is facilitating Instructional Rounds with Democracy Schools at Belleville Township High School District 201-West.

April 20 — 22: Crosstown High School, Memphis, Tenn. — Director of Professional Development, Michael Soguero, is facilitating staff orientation for this public charter school that’s scheduled to open in August 2018.

April 23 — 26: ProjectCon at Seven Oaks Met School, Winnipeg, Canada — Michael Soguero will be participating in Big Picture Learning’s Project Con, a two-day gathering that’s being billed as “the place where students and educators share and discuss all things project!”

April 24:  I Have A Dream Foundation (IHAD) of Boulder County, Colo. – Dan Condon will return to IHAD to facilitate learning related to findings and implications of the 2018 Relationships and Dreamer Scholars report.

April 24: Rochester City School District, Rochester, N.Y. — Professional Development Associate Sarah Bertucci will be in upstate New York facilitating a Restorative Justice session for the Rochester City School District.

April 27 — 28: School Reform Initiative (SRI), Miami / Coral Gables, Fla. — Michael Soguero will be on hand for the SRI Facilitator Retreat — a professional development opportunity with a specific focus on facilitating through an equity lens.

April 30 — May 1: Algebra Project Alliance, Miami, Fla. — Just a few days after the SRI Retreat wraps up, Michael Soguero will attend the Algebra Project Alliance’s event in Miami.

May 3 — 4: Rowland Foundation New Fellow Retreat, Stowe, Vt. — Sarah Bertucci will be facilitating sessions related to Universal Design for Learning at the Rowland Foundation’s New Fellow Retreat.

May 9: Jefferson County Educational Service Center. Steubenville, Ohio — Professional Development Associate Anastacia Galloway Reed will be facilitating an all-day delivery focusing on Universal Design for Learning.

May 10: Toronto High School, Toronto, Ohio — Anastacia Galloway Reed will conduct a follow-up visit at Toronto High School, where our Professional Development team has been engaged with the school’s faculty and staff on the implementation of the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework.

May 10: Estes Park School District, Estes Park, Colo. — Back home, Sarah Bertucci will host a two-hour workshop on Essential Learning Outcomes for the Estes Park School District.

May 11: On this day, Dan Condon will be in Boulder, Colo., visiting the I Have a Dream Foundation of Boulder County, while Anastacia Galloway Reed will be in Cadiz, Ohio, for a full morning of facilitating Harrison Central High School’s peer observations sessions. And later that day, Anastacia will be at Jefferson County Educational Service Center (ESC) in nearby Steubenville, Ohio, for a Trauma-Informed session at the ESC’s alternative school.

Veteran Eagle Rock students are scheduled to return to our mountainside campus on Sunday, May 13, with house retreats beginning the next day. EagleServe activities will be held off campus on Thursday and Friday, May 17 and 18 (EagleServe connects our campus with our neighbors through service projects intended to help not only the Eagle Rock community, but nearby Estes Park and the greater Estes Valley). This series of days often sees students working side by side with community members at large.

New Eagle Rock School students arrive on campus on Saturday, May 19. Classes begin on Monday, May 21, with new students heading off on their three-week Wilderness Orientation program on Monday, May 28.

If you need to contact an Eagle Rock instructor or staff member during our trimester break, please consider sending an email to that instructor or staff member. Many of our staff check email during break and will respond to messages based on availability.
